Why Your Pool Chemistry Matters | Asiapools
Have you ever dreamt of you could simply filling your pool with water and never having to worry about algae growing or the water simply turning into a disgusting breeding ground for all kinds of unpleasant toxins and organisms?
When your pool gets overly unbalanced or plagued with algae, a little upfront work means a lot less remediation work later. The only option then is to drain the pool and start over.Although keeping your pool clean and sanitized can be a troublesome process, however all it takes is a little basic pool chemistry knowledge, and determination to keep the pool clean.
Why does your pool chemistry matter?
Although maintaining pool chemistry and carrying out our regular pool testing may seem troublesome, actually they are not done frequently. Swimming pools are a personal enjoyment for most of us, but do we know the complex chemistry that goes behind keeping that pool water pristine and crystal clear?
Here are four reasons why maintaining good pool chemistry is crucial
- Saves on the cost of maintenance
When the pool water is not balanced, issues can occur including damage to pool equipment and pool accessories, irritation to the skin and eyes while swimming, and more. Over time, a lack of maintenance can cause more costs spent to replace parts. - Protects tiles & Finishing
The chemistry of your pool will determine how long it remains operational.
Improper chemical balances mean damage to the pool’s tiles, grout, and internal finishing. - Protects equipment
Improper chemical balances will cause damage to the pool’s liner, accessories, and equipment. If you want your pool to last, you need to consider the pool chemistry. - Removes algae
Pool algae can be caused by low chlorine levels, poor water chemistry, or bad filtration. When those algae spores spread in your pool’s water will begin to grow on your pool’s walls, those ubiquitous algae spores become a concern. Low chlorine levels, unfavourable pH balances, filthy filters, or poor pool circulation all favour the growth of algae.
So, how do you check pool chemistry?
There are 4 different ways you can check your pool chemistry: the pH level, Chlorine level, Total Alkalinity (TA), and Salinity.
- pH Level
A pool that is “balanced” has proper levels of pH. The optimal pH level for maintaining healthy pool water Ph of between 7.2 to 7.6.
- Chlorine Level
The chlorine level inside the pool is essential to ensure sufficient sanitization so water is safe and clean for use.
- Total Alkalinity (TA)
Alkalinity in pools is extremely important as it buffers the pool water against radical changes in pH
- Salinity
Sufficient salinity is necessary for the optimal sanitisation of salt pools
